Dear friends and colleagues,
The Music Therapy with Families Network and the Music Therapy Research Centre Vienna (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) are organising an inspiring Music Therapy Symposium in Vienna, from Friday the 17th to Sunday the 19th of September 2021.
We look forward to the possibility of connecting together in 2021, and invite you to put this event in your diary, save the date, and plan ahead to join us.
The event is entitled: “We are Family!” and will be the first international stand-alone symposium focused on MUSIC THERAPY WITH FAMILIES.
The focus will be on families across the age-span, from music therapy work with children and their families to practice with elderly people and their relatives. We are planning a lively programme of innovative, multidisciplinary, interactive sessions and presentations which will encourage discussion of a broad range of approaches in working with families.
With all good wishes,
Family Symposium Working Committee
(Grace Thompson, Amelia Oldfield, Tali Gottfried, Eva Phan Quoc, Thomas Stegemann, Claire Flower, Rut Wallius, Agnes Burghardt-Distl)
The focus of this symposium will be on FAMILIES ACROSS THE AGE SPAN, from music therapy work with children and their families to practice with elderly people and their relatives.
We are planning a lively programme of innovative, multidisciplinary, interactive sessions and presentations which will encourage discussion of A BROAD RANGE OF APPROACHES in working with families.
In addition to music therapy presentations and workshops, we are planning to hold discussions between music therapists and other professionals such as family therapists, and sessions where service users will provide feedback.
We are hoping that we will all be able to meet at the conference in Vienna in person in September 2021.
If, nearer the time, it looks like we will not be able to organise the conference for people to attend in person, we will keep you informed as to whether the conference is postponed, or whether it will be held partly or entirely electronically.
However, we plan to film all the events and then put together an edited on-line version of the conference which will be available to view after the event.
This international symposium on MUSIC THERAPY WITH FAMILIES is organised by the Music Therapy with Families Network and the Music Therapy Research Centre Vienna.
The Music Therapy with Families Network is an international group of qualified and credentialled music therapists who work with families and wish to network with others to share ideas, resources and connections.
Since 2017 the Music Therapy Research Centre Vienna (WZMF) represents a collaborative research project between the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) and the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Wien) and became an integral part of mdw in 2019.
Based on the idea of combining music therapy research with music therapy treatment and music therapy training at WZMF, the focus lies on music therapy for children, adolescents, and families as the main research areas.
